Well… we’re a little fashionably late with this month’s guide (hence no pretty pictures in this edition). There’s still plenty to look forward though & with the Lloyds Tour of Britain arriving in Lincoln at the beginning of September, the city is starting to build a buzz. Whether you’re planning a visit before the cyclists arrive, extending your stay after the bank holiday to include race day, or you’re simply looking for inspiration a little closer to home, here are a few of the things that have caught my eye this month. As always, this isn’t an exhaustive list - just my little edit of some of the lovely things still to come this August.

ADVENTURE CINEMA, LINCOLN CASTLE - 6th to 9th August

A summer favourite returns to Lincoln Castle from the 6th - 9th August. Pack a picnic, bring a blanket or camping chair and enjoy a film beneath the stars in one of the city’s most iconic settings. This year’s programme includes The Lost Boys, Dirty Dancing, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, Mamma Mia! ExtrABBAganza and finishes on with Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration. LINCOLN FREE WALKING TOURS - throughout August

Whether you’re visiting for the first time or have lived here for years, the Lincoln Free Walking Tour team offer a fantastic range of guided walks throughout the month. From Roman Lincoln & medieval streets to fascinating historic pub walks, there’s something for every interest. ART, CREATIVITY & CULTURE

For something a little quieter, August is full of exhibitions, workshops and creative events across the city. The recently renovated Barbican Creative Hub, near Lincoln Bus & Train stations, has a programme throughout the month, including a Summer Holiday Mosaic Workshop on 27th August. Alongside this, keep an eye on the Usher Gallery, The Collection and Lincoln’s independent galleries for exhibitions and creative inspiration.

LINCOLN FARMERS MARKET, CASTLE SQUARE - 15th August

Castle Square fills with local food vendors, artisan producers and independent traders for Lincoln’s much-loved Farmers’ Market. It’s always a lovely atmosphere and a great opportunity to support local producers. www.visitlincoln.com

LINCOLN PRIDE - 15th August

Lincoln Pride returns for another colourful celebration of equality, diversity and community. Expect live entertainment, music, stalls and a fantastic atmosphere throughout the city. www.lincolnpride.co.uk

DOG FRIENDLY DAYS, LINCOLN CASTLE - 15th to 16th August

If your four-legged friend enjoys a day out as much as you do, Lincoln Castle is once again opening its gates for one of its popular Dog Friendly weekends. A brilliant excuse for a summer adventure together. www.lincolncastle.com

BARDNEY MANOR WALLED GARDENS - 16th August

Just a short drive from Lincoln, Bardney Manor Walled Gardens opens its gates for one of its special summer open days. Beautifully restored after being hidden away for decades, it’s a peaceful place to wander, enjoy refreshments and perhaps pick up a few plants along the way. www.visitlincolnshire.com

LOST VILLagE FESTIVAL - 27th to 30th August

Set amongst woodland near Witham St Hughs, Lost Village is one of the UK’s unique boutique festivals. STEAMPUNK FESTIVAL - WEEKEND AT THE ASYLUM - august Bank Holiday

No August guide would be complete without mentioning the world-famous Steampunk Festival. Over the Bank Holiday weekend, Lincoln’s historic streets are transformed by spectacular costumes, creativity, music, entertainment and one of the friendliest events you’ll ever experience. FOLLIE'S LITTLE RECOMMENDATION

If you only do one thing this August… slow down. Wander the cobbled streets without a plan, admire the Cathedral, watch with Peregrine Falcons learn to fly, explore the Castle grounds, browse a few independent shops, stop for coffee or an ice cream and don’t be afraid to take a few detours.
